- The Gorgons, the most famous of which is Medusa, are mythological creatures from ancient Greece. Medusa is often described as a woman with snakes for hair and a gaze so terrifying that it turns anyone who meets her to stone.

Medusa was one of the three Gorgons, the other two being Stheno and Euryale. The Gorgons were monstrous creatures with golden wings and brass claws, but Medusa's most distinctive feature was her head covered with snakes instead of hair. Her appearance was so terrible that anyone who looked into her eyes turned to stone.

Medusa was killed by Perseus, a Greek hero, who used a mirror to avoid her direct gaze and cut off her head. After her death, Medusa's head continued to retain its petrifying power, and Perseus used it as a weapon against his enemies.

The stories of Medusa and the Gorgons are often part of Greek myth and have been the subject of many artistic and literary representations over the centuries.
