THE SICILIAN PINE CONE
The pine cone has always been a symbol of good luck, embodying the symbolic meanings of life force, immortality, and divinity.
Having become a symbol of the mountain, home of the Gods, it already represented divinity in the Mediterranean in ancient times, eventually becoming an emblem of speculative and philosophical elevation.
Due to the abundance of its seeds, it was a clear reference to fertility and the generative force of life, and we find it as an ornamental element placed on the four corners of iron double beds.
But the pine cone is also a symbol of fertility of the mind that produces ideas of renewal and growth as its ovoid shape is associated with the pineal gland of the human brain.
It was also often associated with the cosmic egg, with zero and therefore with the birth and creation of the human race.
Fruit of the evergreen pine tree, the pine cone also takes on the meaning of longevity and eternity, thus enriching balconies and often dominating the pillars of the entrance gates of ancient villas and noble gardens.
